I have it on good authority ([personal profile] lucitania) that today is National Answer Your Cat's Questions Day! You're supposed to gaze into your cat's furry face and discern the question therein, and answer it.

Personally, my experience has been that most of them want to know, "WHERE ARE THE CRUNCHIES?", the answer they expect being, "IN YOUR BOWL, SIR OR MA'AM!" Usually my answer is more along the lines of: "Will you for cripe's sake leave me the hell alone? It's almost suppertime and you'll spoil your dinner."

I just gazed into Scully's patient face and heard her asking, "Why are you so silly?" The answer is, "To amuse you, of course." Then I bumped foreheads with her.

What I got from gazing into Gaius' face was, "JEEZ, WTF DID I DO NOW? DID I DO SOMETHING WRONG?!" A year in, and he's still a little jumpy. The answer is, "Calm down, you didn't do anything wrong. Idiot." I tried to kiss him on the forehead but he shied away.

I had to crawl part-way under a table to stare into Vala's face, and her round-eyed question was, "What the hell are you doing under this table?" The answer is, "I'm very suggestible, apparently."

Wee Zack is left, but he's outside. When he comes in, he's going to be jazzed up and fluffed out from being outside in the cold and the question he'll want answered is the previously-mentioned "Where ma cruncheez at?" question. I shall give him a few tablespoons, and he'll be happy with the answer.

Much hilarity in watching the cats express their deep feline disgust about Snowpocalypse Deux! I love it when they shake a little kitty paw, take a step, shake a little kitty paw, take a step, repeat. Even Zack, who resembles an Arctic Fox more than a cat, doesn't like this heavy, wet slop of a snow. Especially when he takes a step and sinks to his chest. The affronted look on his face is priceless.

The week of Dec 8, 1958 had some heavy-hitter books on the bestseller list, the kind of books that are still remembered, loved, and read today (also? Several kick-ass movie adaptations!) Over the years, I've read numbers 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 14.

Here is the most recent New York Times Bestsellers list that the site would give me, from December 2010:

Yes, it's my b-day. No biggie. We celebrated it on Monday, I had leftover chocolate cake for breakfast yesterday and today! Don't judge, it had eggs and flour and milk in it, they're good for you!*

Thank you, [personal profile] lavvyan for the healthy and delicious fruit plate on my user profile page -- that was so nice of you! I'm so amused LJ offers fruit plates for gift-giving! It really is perfect for me, with my healthfood-loving ways.

We took Giaus to the vet for the first time yesterday -- first time for us, he'd been to a vet in New Jersey in November 2009, just before he was gifted to us for Christmas 2009. Our vet declared him a "good kitty" and gave him an envelope of catnip for being such a well-mannered patient. ComicbookMan and I were pretty sure Giaus was going to be insane at the vet -- he hates being picked up and fights it tooth and nail, giving us the idea that he would react badly to being held down on a table. Fortunately, he was the opposite of insane, he was perfect. He even let the vet clean his teeth a bit.

Speaking of the giving of kitties as gifts, I give you "How to Wrap a Cat for Christmas."

If only it were that easy.

*Thank you, Bill Cosby, for the "Dad is great, give us the choklit cake!" skit.

Here is a picture of Scully I had in m LJ scrapbook (as I said before, WHO KNEW I had an LJ scrapbook?!) I was able to use the html address to post to Dreamwidth... thanks for the suggestion and "how to", [personal profile] sage!

Since she's here, I'll do an entry on her:

Likes about Scully:

Cute, weirdly short bobtail. Very stylish.

Dislikes about Scully:

Recently read that truncated tails caused by genetics could become arthritic in old age, so now I'm becoming a hypochondriac on her behalf.

Likes about Scully:

She occasionally and hilariously punches ComicbookMan in the face (no claws) while he's asleep on the bed, probably because his head goes where she curls up when he's not there.

Dislikes about Scully:

It's all fun and games until somebody loses an eye.

Likes about Scully:

Despite her comfortable middle-aged (even dumpy) body shape and short little legs, she's unexpectedly awesome in her ability to scale a doorway, a prodigious climb for any cat let alone one as round as she is.

Dislikes about Scully:

She seems to do it only when I'm asleep, to motivate me to wake up and feed her, and I've yet to see her do it when I'm wearing glasses.

Likes about Scully:

When she's on top of my computer monitor (about shoulder-high), if I tilt my head down towards her in a slight bow, she reflexively tilts her head down, too, so that I can bump foreheads with her. MY CAT IS APPARENTLY PART ATHOSIAN!

Dislikes about Scully:

There is no drawback to having an Athosian cat.

People on my flist and reading list have been posting "What would you like me to post about?" posts, but I don't have to... because I know what you want! KITTY STORIES! Oh, flist/rlisters, you are so predictable.

Oh, Scully; you do keep me entertained.... )
